Abstract

The Kalimas River has the potential to be used for river transportation from the Tanjung Perak Harbor area to strategic areas in the city of Surabaya that are passed by the Kalimas River, especially the Gubeng area of Surabaya. Factors that result in river transportation having the potential to be developed are public transportation available around the Port of Tanjung Perak to Gubeng which is not always available, namely city transportation and city buses which have erratic travel times and transportation that is not always available. The purpose of this research is to identify Kalimas river transportation development potential, identification of obstacles and problems from the development of river transportation and the effectiveness of Kalimas river development. This study uses the SWOT (Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threat) method to identify the potential and problems of river transportation development and conduct an analysis of the effectiveness of river transportation development. Based on the identification results with the SWOT method, 86% of respondents were very interested in the development of Kalimas river transportation for public transportation, as many as 45% of respondents experienced fear in using water transportation. As many as 34% of respondents have the potential to continue using city transportation and city buses because they can be served on short trips, 39% are unsure and 27% have the potential to use river transportation because they have routes according to the route and from the results of an analysis of the effectiveness of river transportation it is 11 minutes faster up to 31 minutes from city transportation and city buses Keywords: Transportation, Public Transportation, River Transport.
