Abstract

The problem in this study is about the use of semiotic analysis kebaya fashion ceremonial village ruwatan Jati Sumber subdistrict Source Trowulan, Mojokerto regency. Usage is basically kebaya fashion women dress Java in particular is today a national fashion Indonesian women. The traditional ceremony in the village Ruwatan of Jati Sumber village Source is a ritual expression of gratitude from citizens who require wearing kebaya fashion, especially for women. Conceptual grounding this research using semiotic Charles Sander Pierce to do the analysis on the mark icon, index and symbol of the object under study. Research approach is qualitative (descriptive). Meaning the results of this study indicate that each element contained in the use kebaya fashion ceremonial ruwatan village of Jati Source has meaning sanctity for kebaya was white and meaning eternal happiness for kebaya black at a ceremony earlier as well as the forms and ways represents the identity of Javanese women from use fashion kebaya heterogeneous ruwatan ceremony conducted at this time. The conclusions of this study is the use kebaya at the ceremony ruwatan village of Jati Source is a form of delivery of nonverbal communication society while implementing meanings and symbols expressing themselves Javanese women in maintaining the identity of Indonesian women, especially women of Java as a form of cultural preservation use kebaya fashion to the tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation by the prevous people to the development of society in this modern era.
