Abstract

Advances in technology and the busyness of parents make children equipped with sophisticated equipment so that the children emotional intelligence do not develop Currently emotional intelligence is one very important factor in life. There are many ways to increase emotional intelligence of children, one of them is to read them continuously fairy tales story, starting with the earliest possible age. Previous studies have shown that storytelling can improve many aspects of the children skills. The purpose of this study is to show the influence of fairy tales storytelling to children's emotional intelligence. This research was conducted at the first grade of primary school, for the first class is the age at which children begin with responsibilities in school, in class the child is required to start the process, and learning. Twelve fairy tales were told to first grade primary school three times a week for four weeks. Before starting the treatment pre_test were given and four weeks later after fairy tales was told, post_test would have given. The data would be analysis by t-test. The results of the study (t = -15.841, p < 0.01) showed significan differences in children,s emotional intelligence. Scores of emotional intelligence after fairy tales were told (mean = 167.56) is higher than the emotional intelligence before fairy tales were told (133.56). So that the research results prove that there is a significant influence of the children’s emotional intelligence before and after fairy tales storrytelling.
