Abstract

This study is about an analysis of Aravind Adiga's The White Tiger. The objectives of this study is to describe characteristic of postcolonialism that happens in the novel. The writer uses qualitative method and applies extrinsic and intrinsic approach. The writer takes postcolonialism approach to analyze the novel. The results of the analysis shows six postconial condition that appears in the novel. First, the novel has subaltern condition that depicts the lower class and low caste of Laxmangarh village that The Great Socialist and Landlord shackles the society. Second, it shows marginality that the society migrates to big city for getting job and the villages shows a backward village. The third, it describes feudalism that landlord masters economy of Laxmangarh village. The fourth characteristics is cultural hegemony, caste system of India makes low caste defenseless with the rule of the hindu caste system. The Fifth, it contains a power that the great socialist manages Laxmangarh for his benefit. Sixth, the novel explains the resistance of the society that rickshaw puller, driver, and Balram resist the postcolonial condition. Based on the analysis, the writer concludes that the novel occur characteristics postcolonialism such as subaltern, marginality, feudalism, cultural hegemony, power, resistance.
