Abstract
Problematic smartphone use can be defined as a condition when a person is unable to control the use of a smartphone and feels uncomfortable when the smartphone is not within reach so that it can have a negative impact on the user. One of the factors that influence problematic smartphone use is Loneliness. This study aims to determine the relationship between loneliness and problematic smartphone use for overseas students in Surabaya. This study uses correlational quantitative methods to achieve the research objectives. The subjects used in this study were members of the Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) Surabaya Student Forum totaling 70 people. This research is a population study research. The measuring tool uses the loneliness scale and problematic smartphone use. The research data were analyzed using the Spearman' Rho correlation test with the help of the computer program IBS SPSS version 26.0 for window. The results of the calculation of data analysis show the Spearman's Rho correlation coefficient of 0.088 with a significance of 0.466 (p > 0.05), which means that there is no significant relationship between Loneliness and Problematic Smartphone Use on overseas students in Surabaya.
