Abstract
UD Aji Batara Perkasa Mandiri is a company that produces arm motors located on Jl. Ngingas Selatan No.14B Sidoarjo City. The material handling process from the assembly process to the finishing area covers a considerable distance of approximately 57 meters with a single transport capacity of 40 pcs and a weight of 100 kg. Transportation still uses manual tools using 2 operators where 1 operator is in charge of pulling the conveyance from the front and 1 operator to push from behind and hold the material from falling. In the material handling process carried out in the process of making arm motors, it requires labor costs and the costs of using transportation equipment which causes changes in the total operational costs incurred by the company as a whole, if the work or material handling activities are carried out ineffectively and efficiently it will cause an even greater costs to be incurred by the company. The research objective to be achieved is to redesign the means of transportation in order to reduce material handling costs. Anthropometric data retrieval of workers is used as a basis for redesigning the transportation equipment to fit the worker's body size. Then testing is carried out on the length of time of transportation, the frequency of material transfer. The results showed that the frequency of material transfers became less, namely 8 times from the previous 13 times of material transfers per day and the calculation results of material handling costs using transportation equipment before design was Rp. 149.709.5 while using transportation equipment after design was Rp. 105.785.7. From these results, the cost of material handling using transportation equipment after the design is cheaper and more arm capacity can be transported.
