Abstract

Research on the relationship between self esteem and social comparison in young women instagram social media users. The study uses quantitative research, the number of subjects is 120 subjects, the selection of subjects by insidential sampling technique. The research samples which were included included in this study had criteria; namely 1) Young female users of Instagram who live in Surabaya, 2) Young women aged 15-18 years, 3) Active use of social media instagram. Based on the calculation of the results of data analysis using Linear Regression obtained a correlation score of 0.644 with a significance of p = 0.000 (<0.05). This means that there is a relationship between self esteem and social comparison with body dissatisfaction. The higher the self esteem, the lower the body dissatisfaction in young women and vice versa the lower the teenage female self esteem, the higher the body dissatisfaction in young women. In addition, the higher the level of social comparison conducted by young women, the higher the body dissatisfaction and vice versa, the lower the level of social comparison of young women, the lower the body dissatisfaction in young women. The effective contribution of this study was 0.415. This means that self esteem and social comparison have an influence of 41% on body dissatisfaction
