Abstract

The Covid-19 diseases have continued to increase since 2020. If it continues, it will have an impact on the entire population, both physically and psychologically. Reports in various media are filled with information about Covid-19 that is not necessarily true. Information conveyed to the media can influence the audience to form a response in the form of anxiety. For this reason, the purpose of this study is to determine whether a press release on the Covid-19 death rate by the Satgas affects the anxiety level of students at High School 1 Tarakan. This study uses an explanatory quantitative method with a survey approach conducted to students in High School 1 Tarakan. The theory uses and gratification. The total population is 345 students of SMA N 1 Tarakan class of 2020. By using the purposive sampling method and the Slovin formula, so total sample of 61 students is obtained according to the research criteria. The partial correlation test results show a correlation of 0.305 between the exposure controlled by variable Z and the degree of anxiety, indicating a low level of association and a positive value for the exposure. The findings of the coefficient test showed that there was a 27.3 percent effect of the press release on the degree of anxiety when attention, comprehension, and acceptance were used as controls, while the remaining 72.7% was influenced by factors beyond the scope of the research. Recommendations for the Covid-19 Satgas of Tarakan should be in providing a stimulus that is not excessive and reduced so as not to cause anxiety for those who receive the stimulus Keywords: Covid-19, Press release, Anxiety
