Abstract

Information technology is widely used in a company, agency and organization. This is because of its very helpful role in completing tasks such as calculations, bookkeeping, file management, report generation and recording the history of each process that takes place. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all educational activities have been shifted to online, including practicum activities. To improve performance in terms of service to students in the laboratory and also to support one of the independent campus concepts, namely teaching assistance. It takes a computerized-based system to overcome the existing problems. Based on the results of interviews with laboratory assistants, currently the implementation of practicum activities at the Computer Design Laboratory of the University of 17 August Surabaya is carried out through an information system called web daskom. Students can download materials and upload assignments, while laboratory assistants can manage data and assess assignments on the web. However, over time, material management on the web daskom has become less effective because it can only load files in pdf form. This research was conducted to design an application that is able to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the Computer Design laboratory of the University of 17 August Surabaya. The method implemented to design this application is a SCL (Student Centered Learning) based learning method. SCL is a learning program that focuses on developing students' independence in seeking knowledge. The SCL that is applied to support the design of the ONLAB application is Self-Directed Learning. This application will handle several processes such as managing teaching materials and collecting assignments in the laboratory.
