Abstract

Welding technology plays an important role in the joining process, and this cannot be separated from the Pre Heating treatment which plays an important role in the splicing process. This study aims to determine the microstructure and level of hardness of the JIS G 3131 SPHC low carbon steel plate material using SMAW welding using variations in Temperature and Cooling Media. Furthermore, hardness testing and microstructure testing were carried out. The method used in this research is experimental. In this study used JIS G 3131 SPHC low carbon steel material with a thickness of 9 mm. After that, the Pre Heating process was carried out with temperatures of 100°C, 200°C and 300°C, then proceeded to the SMAW welding process with the E7016 electrode type and continued to the microstructure testing process and hardness testing. After the testing process, the results of the microstructure test with the highest percentage of pearlite are found in the HAZ area with a temperature of 100°C and using water cooling media with a value of 33%, while the lowest pearlite structure value is found in the welding metal section with a temperature of 300°C and using medium room temperature cooler with a value of 11%, and the results of the hardness test obtained the highest value found in the welding metal section on the material without using treatment, and the lowest hardness value was found in the base metal material using a heat treatment of 300°C and using room temperature cooling media with a value of 43.8 HRC.
