Abstract
Hardiness is a personality characteristic that has a tough attitude in the face of tense or threatening events so that it can control things that are not pleasant and can give positive meaning to each event. Individuals who have high hardiness are very enthusiastic in looking at their future. Social support is assistance received by individuals from other individuals or groups that make individuals feel loved, cared for and respected so that it can affect the welfare of the individual. This study aims to determine the relationship between social support and hardiness in adolescents living in orphanages with the proposed hypothesis that there is a positive relationship between social support and hardiness in adolescents who live in orphanages. The subjects used in this study were adolescents who lived in Ibnu Sina Orphanage Surabaya as many as 50 teenagers. The sampling technique used was Nonprobability or total sampling. Collecting data in this study using a scale of social support and hardiness scale with Spearman's rho correlation analysis techniques obtained rxy value = 0.595 with a significance level of p = 0.000 (p <0.01), meaning that there is a very significant positive correlation between social support variables with hardiness in adolescents who live in an orphanage so that it can be concluded that the greater the social support received, the higher the level of hardiness in adolescents living in an orphanage, conversely the lower the social support the lower the hardiness in adolescents living in an orphanage
