Abstract

Facility Layout Planning is a technique and steps in an effort to improve the layout of an industry so that layout changes can be obtained in an effort to handle facilities and material handling so that the process activities are more efficient and optimal. UD. Bintang Timur is a company engaged in the manufacturing industry located in Palem Watu Village RT.03 RW.02 Menganti, Gresik. The company has a wide range of manufactured products such as ship propeller shafts, chicken feather removers, concrete mixers (molen), and coconut grater machines. In the coconut grater machine production process, UD. Bintang Timur is experiencing problems in the form of distances between areas which are quite far. Where this is influenced by the transfer of materials (material handling). In the calculation of material handling costs obtained a fairly large value, namely Rp.44,102,448/year. This research was conducted with the aim of minimizing material handling costs at the company. In solving these problems, the company's layout re-planning was carried out using the ARC (Activity Relationship Chart), ARD (Activity Relationship Diagram) method, and production capacity analysis. The results of this study, obtained the value of material handling costs on the proposed layout of Rp. 38.210.640/year. Where this value has been reduced from the cost of material handling in the initial layout with a difference of Rp. 5,891,808/year, with a decrease of 13%. In the calculation of production capacity, it is also found that the result of the proposed layout is 10 units/day.
