Abstract

Motor vehicles have a braking system which is a very important factor in driving safety and one of the factors causing traffic accidents. Brakes function to reduce speed or stop the vehicle where many drivers do not understand and consider the performance of a brake. With this in mind, the purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between variations in braking load and vehicle speed on braking capacity, determine the level of braking efficiency produced by the vehicle, and the safe distance to stop the vehicle according to variations in speed. The object of this research is using a Honda Brio type DDI MT 1.2 E. This study uses a quantitative method by calculating the braking capacity and variations of the front wheel speed of the brio car. The variables of this study used independent variables and dependent variables. The independent variable is vehicle speed, while the dependent variable is braking efficiency. The testing of this research was carried out on a straight track, dry road, and wet road. The test results on a dry road, a load of 10 kg requires a shorter time of 1,412, 2.478, and 3.456 seconds compared to other loads at various speed variations. The braking distance at a load of 10 kg results in a shorter distance of 2.80, 8.66, and 27.48 m compared to other loads at various speeds. The braking capacity at a load of 10 kg is heavier, which is 9061,684 kg compared to the weight of other loads. The best braking efficiency is at a speed of 40km/h with a load of 10kg. The test results on wet roads, a load of 10 kg requires a short time of 1.51, 2.898, and 3.958 seconds compared to other loads at various speed variations. The braking distance at a load of 10 kg resulted in shorter distances of 3, 9.10, and 28.66 m compared to other loads at various speeds. The braking capacity at a load of 10 kg is heavier, which is 7249,170 kg compared to the weight of other loads. The best braking efficiency is at a speed of 40km/h with a load of 10 kg. Based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that the greater the braking load, the shorter the time required at various levels of the vehicle. The greater the braking load, the shorter the stopping distance of the vehicle and the greater the braking capacity, which applies at various levels of speed variation. The greater the braking load, the better for the level of braking efficiency.
