Abstract

The purpose of this study was to study the empowerment of the community in waste management at the Bank Sampah Pitoe Jambangan. This research is motivated by the problem of waste in the city of Surabaya. One area that has a high level of participation in waste reduction is Jambangan, Surabaya. Jambangan Tama is one of the villages with the best waste bank in the mining area with Bank Sampah Pitoe Jambangan. The theory used in this study is community empowerment according to the theory of Parsons et.al (1994) in Suharto (2009: 66), namely using the Micro approach, Mezzo Approach, and Macro Approach, The method used in this study is qualitative research methods with descriptive type of research. Data obtained through the process of in-depth interviews with informants, observation, documentation. The data analysis technique used is data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions, while the data validity checking technique uses triangulation techniques. The results of this study indicate that community empowerment in Kampung Jambangan has been carried out by Management Bank Sampah Pitoe. The community supports the program at the Bank Sampah Pitoe. Empowerment is carried out through guidance, training, provision of knowledge to the community so that the community understands and is able to apply its knowledge to the community outside Jambangan Tama.
