Abstract
This research aims to discuss the issue of sexual sadism reflected in J. D. Robb’s Seduction in Death. The objectives of the study are to reveal the sexual sadism suffered by Kevin Morano and to analyze the cause of the sexual sadism as reflected in J. D. Robb’s Seduction in Death. This research is a qualitative research with psychologycal approach. The psychological approach is used because this study aims to analyze fictional characters in a literary work using the language and methods of psychology. The result of the research shows that Kevin Morano indeed suffers from sexual sadism. His sexual sadism can be indicated through his sadistic acts like torture, beating, rape, and killing. The factor that causes Kevin Morano to become a sexual sadist is the way he is raised when he is in his childhood. Kevin has been raised insufficiently when he is in his childhood. His mother has neglected him because she is too busy to pursue her carrier and his caretaker is not a good role model as well. This makes Kevin hates women. His hatred toward women is manifested by engaging sexual sadistic acts against women.
