Abstract
This thesis is an analysis of Valerie’s conflict in Red Riding Hood, a novel written by Sarah Blackley Cartwright. The objective of the research is to describe the kinds of Valerie’s conflict in the novel. The method used in this research is qualitative method. In collected the data, the researcher focused on analyzing internal conflict and external conflict in the novel. To analysis the data, the researcher applied the intrinsic approach. The result of the analysis shows that Valerie has the internal conflicts, that is conflicts that occur in the hearts or souls of characters, this conflict sometimes also arises in groups that have very intimate relationships, for example when Valerie asks whether it is wrong not to obey her parents wishes and whether experiencing love and being married to someone she loves the same blamed her mother who never had the same opportunity, and the external conflict, that is conflict of involving social position, social of interest, and conflict of social role.
