Abstract

This study is about Love in Gayle Forman’s IF I STAY. The objectives of this study are to find the kinds of love in this novel. The writer applies intrinsic and extrinsic approach. The intrinsic approach used in this study is character and the extrinsic approach used psychology approach. The writer uses a theory of love. In the analysis, the writer finds three kinds of love namely, Companionate love, Liking, and Romantic love. Companionate love can be found in the love that happen in Mia’s family, this love between Mia’s family and her. Liking happens between the love of Mia and her friend. Romantic love is found in Mia’s love to her boyfriend. After doing the analysis, the thesis writer concludes that love happens between us and our family is known as Companionate love, love between us and our best friend known as Liking, and love happens between us and our boy friend is known as Romantic love.
