Abstract

This thesis analyzes of oppression in Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games. The problems are: (1) What the reason of oppression in Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games? (2) What the types of oppression found in Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games?. The objective of the study is to find the reason of oppression and the types of oppression. In analyzing the problem, the thesis writer uses extrinsic approach and psychological approach. The thesis writer applies a qualitative method. The study analyzes the government’s reason to do the oppression toward the society in Panem.The power and rich government oppresses all the districts that living in poverty and starvation. Because of the districts rebellion, the government gives public punishment by holding the hunger games every year. The Hunger Games is the government system to oppress the districts.The types of oppression that found are psychologically oppression, physically oppression, exploitation and marginalization. The government uses the media television to oppress the people psychology. The dictatorship government’s rules and The Hunger Games are used for the government to oppress the people physical. From this analysis it can be concluded that oppression happen because there is the power group to be oppressor who have power and there is powerless group that is unable to against the injustice.
