Abstract

Bus is one of the public transportation that is often found and used in Indonesia to carry out a travel activity both within the province and between provinces. The types of buses commonly used in Indonesia are large size buses (1211.4 cm x 246 cm x 287.7 cm), medium buses (779 cm x 260 cm x 225 cm), small buses (501.5 cm x 305 cm x 69.5 cm). Buses that are often used for inter-provincial transportation are large bus types.Basically the availability of the fleet is very important to accommodate the number of public transport passengers and especially the Surabaya -Malang bus transportation, and by using the Load Factor method which aims to determine whether the availability of bus transportation is proportional to the number of potential passengers, while the Strengths Weaknessesses Opportunities method Threats (SWOT) aims to find out bus performance improvement strategies that can be used to attract public interest to use the AKDP Surabaya -Malang bus so that people feel comfortable and continue to use mass transportation, especially buses. The study was conducted using the questionnaire interview method on respondents. Respondents in the study numbered 400 respondents both for the Load Factor questionnaire and the SWOT questionnaire, with details of 180 patas bus passengers and 220 economic buses. This research was conducted in May 2020.Based on the Load Factor method, the results for patas buses themselves are still very high, 90% more, because passengers who use patas buses end to end, namely Surabaya -Malang or vice versa. Inversely proportional to the economic bus with the highest results obtained at 35%, because indeed people use the bus for short distances. And based on the method of Strengths Weaknessesses Opportunities Threats (SWOT), the Patas buses and the economy must use their power to overcome ST threats or strategies. For example, PO buses must have good and professional services to reduce accident rates on the highway, and a better departure schedule from trains will greatly facilitate the public to travel by bus
