Abstract
Along with the development of increasingly advanced technology, metal becomes a very important role to meet the needs of the industry. In this case the steel which is the most widely used alloy metal, has a great influence in the sector. Iron metal which is the basis of making steel can be developed by providing other retreats, in order to increase durability and resilience according to the needs needed. EMS45 steel is carbon steel which has the following composition: 0.52% C, 0.27% SI, 0.65% MN, 0.15% P, 0.002% S, 0.02 CU. This type of steel is widely used for tools or auxiliaries in life such as gears, shafts, bolts, agricultural tools and household tools. The process of heating heat (Heat Treatmeant) is one process to change the structure of the metal by heating the metal at a recrystallization temperature for a certain period of time then cooled in a cooling medium such as Air, Water, Salt Water, Oil, each of which has each density The difference from the data of the results of the challenge test above can be seen that the temperature and time of tempering affect the hardness of steel. The highest hardness value is achieved in 9000C hardening steel holding time of 60 minutes with a hardness value of 88 HRC.
