Abstract
CV Bintang Jaya is a manufacturing company engaged in the production of makeup containers using a make-to-order production system, supplying all its products to PT. Viva. The primary raw materials used include polystyrene plastic pellets, wire rolls, foil paper, and glass. The company faces challenges in raw material inventory control, which is still conducted manually based on estimates without any structured planning method. This condition leads to shortages and excess inventory in certain periods, resulting in production delays and increased inventory costs. This study aims to determine the most accurate demand forecasting method, develop a raw material requirements plan using the Material Requirement Planning (MRP) method, and analyze inventory cost comparisons to identify the most efficient lot sizing technique. The forecasting methods applied include Moving Average, Weighted Moving Average, and Exponential Smoothing. The forecast results were then used as the basis for MRP calculations using Fixed Order Quantity (FOQ) and Fixed Period Requirement (FPR) techniques.Based on the analysis, the Weighted Moving Average method was selected as the best forecasting method with a Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD) value of 118,400 — lower than Moving Average (118,500) and Exponential Smoothing (124,012). MRP calculation results indicate that the FPR method yields the lowest total inventory cost of IDR 6,502,762, compared to the FOQ method at IDR 8,850,656. The FPR method reduces order frequency to 3 times over 6 planning periods, saving IDR 3,600,000 in ordering costs. Based on Incremental Cost Analysis, the total savings from applying FPR over FOQ amount to IDR 2,347,894. Therefore, the FPR method is recommended as the most efficient raw material planning technique for CV Bintang Jaya.
