Abstract
The car Air Conditioning (AC) system plays an important role in maintaining cabin temperature comfort, especially in tropical climates. The performance of the AC system is influenced by the installation position of the thermostat sensor and engine speed (RPM). This study aims to analyze the effect of variations in thermostat position and RPM on the performance of a car AC system. The method used is an experimental approach with variations in thermostat positions attached, 1 cm depth, and 2 cm depth, and RPM, with analyzed parameters including compressor work (W), compressor power (P), refrigeration effect (Re), cooling capacity (Qe), and coefficient of performance (COP). The results show that increasing RPM tends to increase compressor work and power, but decreases the refrigeration effect, cooling capacity, and COP. The attached thermostat position produces the lowest performance, while the 1 cm depth position shows improved performance but is not yet optimal. The best performance is achieved at the 2 cm depth position, which produces the highest refrigeration effect, cooling capacity, and COP, along with more efficient compressor work. Thus, the thermostat installation at a depth of 2 cm is the most optimal condition for improving the efficiency and performance of the car AC system.
