Abstract
The potential for raw water for drinking in Maba City that can be supplied by gravity is very limited due to the extensive nickel mining activity in East Halmahera Regency. Of all the available sources, the Pali River currently meets the technical criteria and is accessible. Meanwhile, the need for raw water for clean water continues to increase with population growth. To ensure the availability of raw water, an analysis of clean water needs, reliable raw water flow rates, and protection of the river basin from nickel mining activities is required. The methods employed are the Geometric, Arithmetic, and Least Square. The calculation results of these three methods were selected with the method with the smallest standard deviation value. After the water demand was determined, the reliable discharge was calculated by analyzing the reliable discharge of raw water based on rainfall data from the last 10 years. The area of the Pali River basin was also analyzed, which would then be recommended to be a nickel mining free area to maintain the reliability of the Pali River discharge as a raw water source for clean water for the people of Maba City. The clean water needs of Maba city, both domestic and non-domestic, in the 2045 projection are on average 33.2 liters/second, while the average discharge is 52 liters/second and if calculated the Mainstay discharge with a 90% probability is 17.19 liters/second. The decrease in discharge occurs in February, July, September and ctober, so that a backup raw water source is needed in the form of groundwater or other river water with a pumping system. The area of the Pali River catchment that must be protected and free from nickel mining activities is at least 1.75 km2.
