Abstract

Indonesia adalah negara yang kaya akan serat kelapa dan serat rami, tetapi pemanfaatannya sebagai bahan untuk penguat komposit masih belum maksimal. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis bagaimana fraksi volume serat dan perlakuan alkalisasi dengan NaOH mempengaruhi sifat mekanik dari komposit hybrid yang terbuat dari serat kelapa dan serat rami dalam resin epoksi. Fraksi volume serat yang dipilih adalah 28% kelapa dan 12% rami, 20% kelapa dan 20% rami, serta 12% kelapa dan 28% rami, dengan total serat sebesar 40%. Serat ini diperlakukan dengan tanpa NaOH, NaOH 5%, dan NaOH 8%. Proses pembuatan komposit dilakukan melalui metode hand lay-up dan pengujian dilakukan dengan uji tarik sesuai standar ASTM D638 dan uji bending menurut ASTM D790.Hasil penelitian mengindikasikan bahwa perlakuan dengan NaOH dapat memperkuat hubungan antara serat dan matriks serta meningkatkan sifat mekanik komposit. Tegangan tarik tertinggi dicatat pada perlakuan NaOH 8% dengan campuran 20% serat kelapa dan 20% serat rami, mencapai 4,65 kg/mm². Di samping itu, nilai regangan maksimum sebesar 0,0086 juga terukur pada kombinasi tersebut. Perlakuan NaOH 5% menunjukkan kenaikan yang cukup signifikan dalam kekuatan tarik, terutama pada campuran 28% rami dan 12% kelapa. Secara keseluruhan, perlakuan alkali dengan konsentrasi yang tepat dapat memperbaiki baik kekuatan tarik maupun kemampuan deformasi dari komposit.Sebagai kesimpulan, perpaduan serat yang seimbang (20% kelapa : 20% rami) dengan pengolahan menggunakan NaOH 8% adalah pilihan paling optimal untuk meningkatkan kinerja mekanik dari komposit hybrid yang terbuat dari serat alami ini.
