Abstract
The development of the industrial world has led to an increase in demand for materials, especially products. The use of metal materials in various material elements is decreasing, because of the nature of metal elements and relatively difficult to form in the manufacturing process. Thus, as a substitute for synthetic fibers, abaca banana frond fibers and sisal plant fibers, abaca banana frond fibers and sisal plant fibers are used which are useful plants because they are a potential type of fiber, and are a substitute or alternative that can be used for composite reinforcements with an epoxy matrix. When using natural fibers, namely abaca banana stalks and sisal fibers, an alkalization process is needed that can increase the compatibility between the fiber and the matrix. The reduced content of hemicellulose, lignin or pectin in the fiber will increase the surface hardness, resulting in better mechanical compatibility between the fiber and the matrix. Bending and impact testing on the specimen was carried out to determine the level of mechanical strength in the composite of abaca banana stem fiber and sisal plant fiber according to ASTM D-790-03 and ASTM D-256 standards. in making composite materials using the vari method (Vacuum Assisted Resin Infusion) with the aim of reducing the presence of voids trapped in the specimen or mold when flowing with epoxy resin. The Vacuum Compressor uses 1/4 hp in the vari method (Vacuum Assisted Resin Infusion) to determine the effect of two variations between the Naoh (alkali) process of 20 minutes, 40 minutes, 60 minutes and the fiber volume fraction 20%,30%,40%,50%,60%.
