Abstract

Companies in Indonesia are still heavily dependent on external sources of funds such as bank debt and capital markets. According to the Bank Indonesia survey in the second quarter of 2013, the use of internal funds of 54.92 percent and the still high use of external funds reached 45.08 percent. The purpose of this research is to analyze the capital structure and its relation with profitability which is one of goal of a company. With the hypothesis of capital structure effect on profitability. The population in this study is all manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) with a total of 19 companies, and using purposive sampling sampling technique with the number of samples that meet the requirements of 16 companies. Using quantitative data analysis from secondary data with multiple linear regression statistic method. Research shows that capital structure does not have a significant effect on profitability which means the use of external capital is not a threat to run the business as long as it is done with proper management, according to the needs and capability of the company so as to reduce financial risk, so as potential investors need to do some other performance analysis not only financial ratios only.
