Abstract
This study aims to analyze the effect of variations in capillary tube diameter and evaporator air flow velocity on the thermodynamic characteristics of a refrigeration system based on R-410A refrigerant. The variations in capillary tube diameter used consist of 0.26 mm, 0.28 mm, 0.30 mm, and 0.42 mm, while variations in evaporator fan speed include 3.2 m/s, 3.5 m/s, and 3.8 m/s. The analysis was carried out using the Pressure–Enthalpy (P–h) diagram approach to map changes in pressure, enthalpy, and the shape of the refrigeration cycle at each test condition. The results of the study indicate that changes in the capillary tube diameter have the most significant effect on the characteristics of the refrigeration cycle. A smaller capillary tube diameter results in a larger pressure drop during the expansion process, thus widening the P–h cycle and increasing the refrigeration effect, but can reduce the stability of the refrigerant mass flow. Conversely, a larger diameter results in a higher evaporation pressure so that the cooling capacity decreases. Variations in the evaporator fan speed have been shown to affect the heat transfer rate, but the effect is not as large as variations in the capillary diameter on changes in the shape of the P–h cycle. The highest Coefficient of Performance (COP) value is obtained when the flow resistance in the capillary tube is balanced with the evaporator's ability to absorb heat. Overall, this study confirms that selecting the right capillary tube diameter is a major factor in improving the performance of the R410A Split AC, while adjusting the evaporator fan speed plays a supporting factor in optimizing the cooling process.
