Abstract

The abundant availability of natural resources provides strong support forfuture infrastructure development and expansion, in line with ongoing development trends in Indonesia. Concrete is one of the most important construction materials due to its widespread use and diverse functions in building and structural works. This study aims to examine the utilization of local limestone potential in the Semanding area, Tuban, to be optimized in concrete production in order to reducematerial waste. In addition, this research is expected to produce concrete with varying limestone powder compositions that are able to meet the planned compressive strength. Based on the test results, the addition of limestone powder affects both the fresh and hardened properties of concrete. The setting time of cement for the 5%,10%, 12.5%, and 15% variations occurred at 75 minutes, while the 35% variation showed a faster setting time at 53 minutes. The slump value decreased within creasing limestone powder content, with the lowest slump of 11.5 cm occurring at the 12.5% variation. The highest fresh and dry concrete densities were obtained in the mixture without limestone powder, while the lowest values were observed in the 35% variation. The lowest water absorption was recorded at the 10% variation at 38.42%, where as the highest absorption occurred at the 15% variation at 88.17%.The highest compressive strength was achieved at the 15% limestone powder substitution with a value of 9.71 MPa, while the lowest compressive strength was obtained in concrete without limestone powder. These results indicate that the use of limestone powder at certain percentages can improve concrete performance.
