Abstract

UD. Karya Bersaudara is a company enggaged in manufacturing which was founded in 2000, which manufactures various types of household products such as baskom and wakul made from plastic raw materials. The problem faced by UD. Karya Bersaudara currently is that in the layout of the production facilities they are not given enough attention, so that the material transfer distance becomes very long and how to shorten the material transfer distance. As for the purpose of this research is to propose improvement to the layout of production facilities so that it can shorten the distance of material transfer, can reduce the cost of material handling. The method used in the design of the layout of production facilities is the Activity Realtionship Chart (ARC) which functions to plan and analyze the closeness between each department. Is expected to expedite the production process and shorten the distance of material handling. As well as using From To Chart that functions for planning the layout of the plant and in the process of moving materials in a production process. The results obtained from this research are shortening the distance of material transfer from 102 m to 59,4 m and reducing material handling cost from Rp.8.327.071 to Rp.3.518.516.
