Abstract

In the digital era, first-grade elementary students face challenges in mastering basic literacy skills due to unengaging conventional teaching methods. Observations at SDN Ngingasrembyong revealed that students struggled with reading and letter-sound recognition and lacked motivation, preferring play over study. This research aimed to address these issues by developing an interactive 2D multimedia application titled *Petualangan Literasi* (Literacy Adventure), based on Chapter 1 of the 2021 Indonesian Language Curriculum. The application was developed using the Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC) method, comprising six stages: Concept, Design, Material Collection, Assembly, Testing, and Distribution. It features four thematic islands—Sound Island, Letter Island, Sentence Island, and Punctuation Island—each offering game-based learning activities. A simple reporting feature was also included to assist teachers in monitoring student progress. Testing results demonstrated improved learning performance; five students achieved maximum scores, and the majority showed significant improvement compared to conventional methods. This approach proved effective in enhancing students' literacy skills and learning motivation through an enjoyable, interactive experience.
