Abstract

FOMO in adolescents leads to compulsive social media behaviour. Adolescents tend to feel that they must be connected to the digital world so as not to be left behind, causing ongoing anxiety that can interfere with their mental well-being. Researchers found the phenomenon of FOMO in Kalang Magetan Village, where FOMO among rural adolescents is caused by a lack of socialisation (life satisfaction). This study aims to prove the relationship between life satisfaction and self-control in predicting FOMO. The subjects in this study were 186 adolescents from Kalang Magetan Village. The research design was quantitative with a correlational approach. The measurement scale in this study was a Likert scale consisting of five alternative answers. Data analysis used multiple linear regression analysis. The results showed that there was a significant negative relationship between life satisfaction and self control with FoMO tendencies in adolescents. There was a significant negative relationship between life satisfaction and FoMO tendencies. There is a significant negative relationship between self-control and FoMO tendencies. The effective contribution of the life satisfaction variable to FoMO is 2.5%, while the contribution of the self-control variable to FoMO is 32.1%, so that the total effective contribution of both variables is 34.6%. It is hoped that the results of this study will serve as a reference for reducing FoMO tendencies among adolescents.
