Abstract

The rise in motorcycle theft cases indicates that conventional security systems—such as manual ignition keys and mechanical handlebar locks—no longer provide optimal protection. To address this issue, this study designs an Internet of Things (IoT)-based motorcycle security system that integrates biometric authentication (smartphone-based fingerprint scanning), GPS-based location tracking, and automatic handlebar locking via a solenoid, all controlled through a smartphone application. The system is built using an ESP32 microcontroller (supporting Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity), a Neo-6M GPS module for vehicle tracking, and ThingSpeak alongside a Telegram bot for cloud data storage and notifications. Biometric authentication utilizes the smartphone's fingerprint feature, while relay controls manage the engine's ignition and the automatic handlebar locking mechanism. The mobile application was developed using the Kodular platform, and a web interface was created locally for supplementary monitoring. The development process encompassed hardware and software system design, module integration, and functional testing under various conditions. Test results demonstrate that the system rapidly authenticates users, automatically locks and unlocks the handlebars based on the motorcycle's status, and detects—as well as notifies the user of—suspicious movement when the engine is off. Overall, the system is deemed successful and viable as a practical, effective IoT-based motorcycle security solution.
