and durability. However, corrosion remains a major challenge as it can significantly degrade the material. Corrosion is an electrochemical process that involves the flow of electrons from the anode to the cathode, causing a gradual decline in the quality of the metal. This study aims to analyze the corrosion rate of carbon steel ST 37 in three different corrosive media, namely sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄), hydrochloric acid (HCl), and sodium hypochlorite (NaClO), with each solution concentration being 30%. The method used in this study is the weight loss method, which involves measuring the difference in the specimen's weight before and after immersion for 5, 10, and 15 days. Additionally, Rockwell hardness tests were conducted to observe the effect of corrosion on the mechanical properties of the material. The results of the study show that the highest corrosion rate occurred in sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) with a value of 1.84 mills/year, followed by hydrochloric acid (HCl) with a value of 1.03 mills/year, and the lowest in sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) with a value of 0.073 mills/year. The gradual decrease in corrosion rate in each medium is due to the formation of a passive layer on the surface of the steel. On the other hand, hardness tests showed a decrease in hardness values over time, particularly in specimens immersed in H₂SO₄ solution with a value of 23 at the right side, indicating structural damage due to corrosive exposure. In conclusion, variations in the type of medium and the immersion time significantly affect the corrosion rate and the changes in the mechanical properties of ST 37 steel. Therefore, in industrial applications, it is necessary to select the appropriate operating environment and apply protective methods such as coatings or the use of inhibitors to minimize the impact of corrosion on steel.
