Abstract
This study aims to examine the relationship between locus of control and intention to corruption, as well as to investigate the mediating role of moral disengagement among students in Surabaya. The research employed a correlational quantitative approach with 360 active students from public and private universities selected through convenience sampling. Data analysis was conducted using stepwise linear regression following the Baron and Kenny (1986) model with IBM SPSS Statistics version 27. The research instruments consisted of the Locus of Control Scale with three dimensions (internality, powerful others, and chance), the Moral Disengagement Scale, and the Intention to Corruption Scale. The results showed that all three dimensions of locus of control; internality (β = 0.094, p = 0.029), powerful others (β = 0.408, p < 0.001), and chance (β = 0.258, p < 0.001) had a positive and significant relationship with intention to corruption. Mediation analysis indicated that moral disengagement mediated the relationship between locus of control and intention to corruption, with partial mediation for powerful others and full mediation for internality and chance. These findings suggest that students with an external locus of control tend to have higher corruptive intentions through moral justification, whereas an internal locus of control plays a role in preventing the emergence of such intentions.
