Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and prosocial behavior in adolescents in Surabaya. Adolescence is an important stage of development in the formation of the ability to manage emotions and build positive social relationships. This study uses a quantitative research method with a correlational approach. The subjects of the study were grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 27 Surabaya who were selected using the Cluster Random Sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using the emotional intelligence scale and prosocial behavior scale that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was carried out using the Product Moment correlation technique. The results showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and prosocial behavior with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.290 and a significance of p <0.001. This finding indicates that the higher the emotional intelligence possessed by adolescents, the higher their tendency to behave prosocially. This study is expected to be an input for schools, teachers, and parents to pay more attention to the development of emotional intelligence as an effort to foster prosocial behavior in adolescents.
