Abstract

the metal and its surrounding environment. One of the most effective methods to mitigate this process is through the use of corrosion inhibitors. This study investigates the effectiveness of hibiscus leaf extract (Hibiscus tiliaceus) as a natural corrosion inhibitor in reducing the corrosion rate of S45C steel immersed in a 3% NaCl solution. The research employed Rockwell hardness testing and microstructural analysis to evaluate the impact. Inhibitor concentrations of 25%, 30%, and 35% were tested over immersion periods of 3, 10, and 17 days. The results indicate that higher inhibitor concentrations and longer immersion times lead to increased hardness values and more stable microstructures. The most effective protection against corrosion was observed at a concentration of 35% after 17 days of immersion
