Abstract

Inefficiencies in the material handling system at UD. SYP have led to increased production time and higher operational costs. This study aims to redesign the facility layout to improve the efficiency of material flow. The From-To Chart (FTC) method was applied to analyze material transfer patterns between workstations, while discrete-event simulation using FlexSim was conducted to evaluate the performance of alternative layouts. The data collected included distances between departments, material transfer frequencies, processing times, and material handling costs. The results showed that the proposed layout successfully reduced the total material travel distance from 1,297.47 meters to 1,080.05 meters, and decreased material handling costs by up to 16.75% compared to the initial layout. FlexSim simulation also confirmed increased machine utilization and shorter processing times with the proposed layout. This study provides recommendations for a more efficient production facility layout to support the company's productivity improvement.
