Abstract

PT. Harapan Teknologi Indonesia as an e-bike distributor faces efficiency constraints in warehouse layout, especially on the 1st floor of the main warehouse which is the main point of storage and goods release activities. The unstructured product arrangement and the absence of a clear classification system cause the process of searching and retrieving goods to take a long time. Field observations show that the search time can reach 335.20 seconds, even in some cases, the retrieval time can take up to 5-10 minutes due to the movement between warehouses. This study includes redesigning the layout of three storage warehouses, but the simulation focuses on the 1st floor of the main warehouse because it stores products with the highest frequency of demand. In its design, a Class-Based Storage approach is used which groups products into classes A (fast moving), B (medium moving), and C (slow moving), based on actual demand data. The new layout places class A products dominating on the 1st floor, with aisle arrangements of 2 meters wide and a distance between e-bike units of 20 cm to improve order and ease of access. Simulation of picking six class A products using FlexSim software showed a decrease in average picking time from 65.78 seconds to 20.31 seconds after the new layout was implemented. These results indicate that the redesign of the warehouse layout can increase storage efficiency and speed up the picking process by 56.12%, thus supporting more effective goods distribution operations.
