Abstract

Increasing traffic volumes and the need for quality road infrastructure encourage the development of more efficient and environmentally friendly pavement materials. One of the ways that can be taken is to utilize industrial waste as an additive in asphalt mixtures. This research aims to evaluate the utilization of steel powder waste as filler in asphalt mixtures of Asphalt Concrete-Binder Course (AC-BC) type. The problems studied include Job Mix Formula (JMF) with the addition of steel powder filler and cement, determination of optimum asphalt content (KAO) using the Marshall method, and comparison of production costs between the use of steel powder filler and cement. The research was conducted through laboratory testing of various Marshall parameters such as VMA, VFB, VIM, Stability, Flow, and Marshall Quetion. The results showed that the AC-BC mixture with the addition of steel powder filler and cement at 2% met the technical requirements based on Bina Marga 2018 specifications. The optimum asphalt content obtained is 6.17% for steel powder and 6.31% for cement. From an economic aspect, the use of steel powder is superior because it results in a cost of Rp 1,598,730.11/ton compared to cement resulting in a cost of Rp 1,693,115.42/ton. Therefore, steel powder is worth considering as an alternative filler material that is economical, efficient, and supports the concept of sustainable development
