Abstract

Instagram, observed from six posts on the @TaraBasro account during the period 2020–2023. Tara Basro advocates for the acceptance of natural bodies and faces, without filters and without makeup, in those posts as a form of resistance against the dominant beauty standards created by the media and the cosmetics industry. The Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) method by Norman Fairclough is used in this research as a descriptive qualitative approach. This approach encompasses three dimensions: text analysis, discourse practice, andsociocultural practice. The research results show that Tara constructs a more inclusive and authentic meaning of beauty through the textual dimension by using strong and simple language and visuals. Instagram has become a platform that encourages the audience to love themselves and challenge conventional beauty standards through alternative discourse. On the sociocultural practice side, Tara's posts are symbolic activism that supports the body positivity movement and opposes consumer culture and patriarchal aesthetic standards. Thus, Tara Basro creates a counter-narrative of beauty that empowers women to boldly showcase their faces and bodies as they are.
