Abstract

The research aims to analyze comparation management of green open space to realize sustainable city in Surabaya city and Sidoarjo district, which are based 5 sustainable city indicators according to the ministry of PPN / Bappenas 2022. The five indicators consist of scattered population, air quality index, water quality index, green open space, smart people. The research uses qualitative research methods, combining primary and secondary data sources. Data is obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation. The collected data will be analyzed through the stages of data collection, data presentation, data reduction, and conclusion drawing. The findings of this research indicate that there are differences in the management of Green Open Space in the city of Surabaya and the regency of Sidoarjo. To realize a Sustainable City, at least each regency or city must provide Green Open Space amounting to 30% of the total area of the city, consisting of 20% Public Green Open Space and 10% Private Green Open Space. The management of Green Open Space in the city of Surabaya focuses more on watering maintaining plants and trees on a daily basis. This is because the city of Surabaya has provided 7,358.82 hectares of Public Green Open Space, which is nearly 22% of the total area of 33,306.30 hectares of Surabaya. However, there are obstacles faced by Surabaya in managing Green Open Space, such as not providing the proportion of Private Green Open Space due to limited land. Meanwhile, the management of Green Open Space in Sidoarjo Regency is more focused on the development of Green Open Space such as the construction of public facilities in housing and the revitalization of city parks to improve environmental quality. This is because Sidoarjo Regency has not provided Green Open Space in accordance with the central government policy, which is 30% of the city’s area. Nevertheless, Sidoarjo Regency continues to strive to meet the proportion through the development Green Open Space.
