Abstract

This research investigates how the quality of corporate governance, influenced by the governance matrix, affects the sustainability of non-financial public firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Based on the resource-based view (RBV) theory, the study argues that effective governance acts as a strategic asset in attaining long-term sustainability. The focus is on 34 non-financial listed companies, shedding light on their governance practices within the Indonesian market. The governance matrix, which includes commitment and assessment, plays a crucial moderating role in fortifying the connection between governance quality and corporate sustainability. A quantitative methodology was utilized, gathering data through a structured survey and analyzing it with SEM-PLS to assess the impacts of governance variables ethics, transparency, accountability, and risk management. The results indicate that ethics, transparency, and accountability significantly improve governance quality, whereas risk management does not exhibit a direct significant impact. Governance quality has a strong effect on sustainability, with management commitment proving to be more significant than governance assessment. Commitment ensures continuous leadership and appropriate resource allocation, while assessment provides organized feedback for ongoing enhancement. Subsequent research could explore additional factors such as organizational culture, leadership dynamics, and innovations in governance practices. Broadening the focus to encompass various industries or regions may yield more comprehensive insights. For practitioners, it is advisable for companies to prioritize developing strong management commitment, incorporating risk management into governance structures, and adopting international reporting standards to boost transparency and accountability while promoting sustainable business operations.
