Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the gratitude journal intervention in reducing social comparison and body dissatisfaction in adolescent social media users. This research is a quantitative true experimental research model with a pretest-posttest control group design. The subjects in the study were 16 people who were divided into 2 groups, namely the experimental group and the control group, each containing 8 samples. The research sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique with the criteria, female, middle adolescents (15 to 19 years), using social media actively and having body dissatisfaction scores in the high to very high range. The data collection method used in the research is using a social comparison scale and body dissatisfaction. Analysis of the data used in the research used parametric statistics Independent Sample t-Test. The statistical test results for the first hypothesis show a t score of 3.781 with a significance of 0.002 (P>0.05). This means that there is an effective influence of gratitude journals in reducing social comparison among adolescent social media users. Meanwhile, in the second hypothesis, the t score was 3.267 with a significance of 0.006 (P>0.05). This means that there is an effective effect of gratitude journals in reducing body dissatisfaction in adolescent social media users.
