Abstract
This study aims to examine the role of perceived burdensomeness in mediating the relationship between family support and suicide ideation in the sandwich generation. The sandwich generation, who are caught between the responsibilities of caring for parents and children, often experience emotional and financial stress that can trigger suicidal ideation. The research method used was quantitative with path analysis involving 177 participants aged 25 to 60 years. The results showed that perceived burdensomeness played a role in mediating the relationship between family support and suicidal ideation, with an estimated value of -0.006 and significance of 0.003 (p < 0.05). In addition, family support had a significant negative relationship with suicidal ideation (estimate -0.009; p = 0.002). Family support also had a significant negative effect on perceived burdensomeness (estimate -0.022; p = 0.002). Finally, perceived burdensomeness had a positive and significant influence on suicidal ideation (estimate 0.294; p < 0.001). These findings confirm the importance of family support in reducing feelings of burden and the risk of suicidal ideation in the sandwich generation.
