Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis representasi ketimpangan kelas sosial dalam serial Gadis Kretek karya Ratih Kumala melalui pendekatan semiotika Roland Barthes. Serial yang terdiri dari lima episode mempresentasikan berbagai tanda dan simbol yang mencerminkan stratifikasi sosial dan ketimpangan antara kelas atas dan kelas bawah. (Moleong, 2005) menjelaskan pendekatan ini melibatkan analisis mendalam berupa kata, gambar, dan dokumentasi. Penelitian ini membahas elemen seperti simbol, mitos, dialog, narasi dan elemen visual untuk mengungkap makna denotatif dan konotatif dari tanda-tanda. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa serial Gadis Kretek menggunakan berbagai tanda untuk membangun cerita tentang ketimpangan kelas sosial. Tema-tema seperti penindasan, perbedaan dalam akses kekayaan dan kekuasaan serta perjuangan kelas. Penelitian ini memberikan pemahaman mendalam tentang bagaimana film merefleksikan isu-isu sosial melalui representasi visual dan naratif.
