Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of political apathy among adolescents in Nubatukan District, Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, and to explore methods to address this issue. Political apathy, characterized by indifference or disengagement of youth in political processes, poses a threat to the sustainability of democracy in the region. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using in-depth interviews with adolescents as the primary subjects. The findings reveal that political apathy among adolescents is influenced by several factors, including a lack of understanding of the importance of political participation, the dominance of negative perceptions about politics, and ineffective communication between political actors and the community. Mass media also contributes to shaping negative views on politics. In the local context, distrust in politicians and governmental institutions exacerbates the issue. This study highlights that effective interpersonal communication between politicians and the community, especially young people, can serve as a solution to reduce political apathy. Through more transparent and inclusive interactions, adolescents can feel more engaged and motivated to actively participate in political processes. Increased political participation is expected not only to change youth attitudes towards politics but also to strengthen the democratic system in Nubatukan District.
