Abstract

This study aims to determine the significant relationsip between optimism and social support as a whole with resilience among final-years student working on their thesis. The quantitave study involved 255 final-years student selected using random sampling techniques.The measurement tools used in this study are a resilience scale developed by the researcher, based on the theory of Waggnlid & Young. An optimism attitude scale was also created by the researcher, utilizing the theory of Seligman. Additionally, a social support scale was developed by the researcher, drawing on the theory of Safiro and Smith. The result of multiple linear regression showed a regression coefficient (R) of 0,801 with an F value of 226,080 and a significance level of 0,000 (p<0,01), indicating that all variables are significantyly related, with optimism and social support having a connection to resilience. The findings indicate that lower optimism in associated with lower resilience among final-years students, and vice versa. The partial test showed a negative relationship between optimism and resilience, with a t = -14,713 and a significance of 0,000 (p < 0,05). This means that higher levels of optimism are associated with lower level of resilience and vice versa. Coversely, there is a significant positive relationship between social support and resilience, with a t = 18,557 and significance of 0,000 (p < 0,05).this indicates that higher levels of social support are associated with higher levels of resilience among student, and vice versa.
