Abstract

Berau Regency, a natural resource-rich area in East Kalimantan Province, often faces flooding challenges that threaten infrastructure, the environment, and the safety of residents. The increasing frequency and intensity of flooding over the past few years indicates the need for proper management. Therefore, this research proposes a better understanding of the role of drainage systems in flood mitigation and sustainable water resources management. The main problem formulation in this research is to determine alternative drainage system structures that are more efficient and effective using the Value Engineering Method, as well as measuring the cost savings that can be achieved through the application of this method. The objectives of the research include getting a better alternative drainage system design and cost savings in planning the drainage system on Jalan Diponegoro. In analyzing the Drainage System to Overcome Flooding with Value Engineering Method at Jalan Diponegoro, Tanjung Redeb Sub-district, Berau Regency, it was found: 1) The drainage system alternative 2 is more efficient with lower cost of Rp. 11,098,367,789.30; 2) The 2nd alternative is also more effective with an implementation time of 152 days, compared to the other options. The initial cost of the existing river stone masonry reached Rp. 15,887,607,936.99, but through Value Engineering, the cost of alternative 2 (Box Culvert Structure) can be reduced to Rp. 11,098,367,789.31, with a cost saving of 30.14%. Analysis of Drainage System with Value Engineering Method in Jalan Diponegoro shows that the alternative drainage system is more efficient and economical. Cost savings reached 30.14% by implementing alternative 2 (Box Culvert Structure).
