Abstract

This study aims to determine the drainage channel capacity at DAM-BONO 1 in Bulubendo, Sidoarjo Regency, which faces flooding issues due to urbanization and climate change. Using HEC-RAS 4.0.1 software, the research calculates flood discharges for return periods of 2, 5, and 10 years and evaluates the capacity of the existing drainage channels. The methods used include the Thiessen polygon method for analyzing maximum and average rainfall, frequency distribution, and design rainfall using the Log Pearson Type III method. The results show design rainfall for a 2-year return period of 454.901 mm, a 5-year return period of 501.171 mm, and a 10-year return period of 528.349 mm. Next, rainfall intensity is calculated using the Mononobe equation, resulting in rainfall intensities of 68.643 mm/h for 2 years, 75.625 mm/h for 5 years, and 79.726 mm/h for 10 years. The design flood discharge is then calculated using the rational method, yielding values of 29.7805 m³/s for 2 years, 32.8097 m³/s for 5 years, and 34.5889 m³/s for 10 years. The drainage channel's capacity is then compared with the calculated flood discharges, and modeling is conducted using HEC-RAS software. The results reveal several points where the drainage channels overflow, primarily because the existing capacity cannot handle the calculated flood discharges. Field observations also indicate that other factors contributing to the flooding include significant amounts of trash in the channels and sedimentation, which reduces the drainage capacity and leads to overflows during high-intensity rainfall.
