Abstract

This study aims to Describe the Reception of Communication Science Students of the University of 17 August 1945 Surabaya towards Javanese Culture in the Film Lokadrama Lara Ati by Bayu Skak This study adopts a qualitative research method, by combining primary and secondary data sources. Data is obtained through collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The collected data will be analyzed through the stages of data collection, data presentation, data reduction, and drawing conclusions. The findings of this study indicate that the results of the data analysis are adjusted to the three reading positions of Stuart Hall after conducting interviews with three informants, Communication Science Students of the University of August 17, 1945 Surabaya who have watched the film Lara Ati by Bayu Skak, the majority of the three informants are in the oppositional position, where the informants understand that the use of Javanese in the film cannot describe the existing Javanese culture such as Krama language but there is a mixture of rude sentences and other languages so that the majority of informants do not agree with the message conveyed in the films Lara Ati by Bayu Skak which should have a meaning related to the introduction of Javanese culture. In this position, informants can show their disagreement with a statement by giving another statement that they think is more relevant. The results of the interview show that the meaning of informants regarding the construction of values in the film is in accordance with their respective personal opinions. In addition, in this study, it turned out that not all informants could recognize the difference between. The form of politeness in Javanese language is in the form of ngoko and krama, Infotman also quite disagrees if in the film if the goal is to introduce Javanese Language Culture but in the conversation mixes Javanese with other languages and does not include coarse language in the film.
